eMost people (including the old me), do not know that there is a direct link between the state of your digestive system and your overall health. In fact, many people don't even realise how important the gut actually is.
The majority of your immune system is in your gut. Therefore, if your gut is unhealthy, your entire body is unhealthy. For example, as I have mentioned in my 'About me' page that I have overcome a myriad of health issues when I restored my gut.
Take from it what you may, but it's been shown that 9 out of 10 people who have autism also have a gut imbalance such as leaky gut and IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), or have a high amount of bad bacteria in the gut. That's a monumental finding! Imagine if your own health issues are a result of your gut health, and imagine how great you could feel if you fix your gut.
To understand how smoothies play a role in gut health, you have to know the causes of gut imbalance. The first is an overworked digestive system.
Just like you need a break from work, so does your digestive system. Imagine how you would feel if you worked 24/7. You'd feel like complete crap, as does your digestive system it you don't give it a break. Smoothies allow your digestive system to rest while still giving it the nutrients it needs. Allowing your digestive system to rest also conserves tons of energy.
The benefits of super smoothies!
Everyone asks me the same question - "Why are smoothies so flippin' awesome?" Smoothies are miraculous in so many ways. They are:

Introducing the first FODMAP friendly tea range!
Have you tried 'soothing tummy tea' and been a little disappointed that it wasn't so soothing after all? Well that's because the so called soothing tea on the market contains FODMAPs! Most of them contain Chamomile which sounds soothing but is problematic if you are intolerant to it. So I want to share my new range with you to soothe your troubles away! I have carefully selected my ingredients specifically to help all the gut issues that accompany food intolerances & IBS and to offer relief & prevention from inflammatory bowel diseases and other uncomfortable complaints. Our herbs are sourced mainly from Australia & around the world to bring you natural tea without artificial flavouring & preservatives.
* For maximum benefits from all blends, drink 3 cups a day! (& yes it will keep the doctor away!)
In addition to the endless therapeutic benefits of herbal tea and the fact it is caffeine free, it is also good for:
Well, we are at the end of Jan & shock horror we haven't gone through with our new year's resolutions. Oh that's right we were waiting till the kids are back at school:) Yes, finally that time has arrived (my kids have had 2 months off exactly hence the lack of posts, well that's my excuse!) So let's start getting a bit motivated!
Firstly I want to tell you how I changed my career path to hopefully inspire some of you to go for it too! After spending years trying to find a new career I stumbled across Health and Wellness Coaching as researching health had become a passion of mine after having gut issues for so long. If I even found one snippet of information to help me along it was worth a try. So I enrolled in a course, so excited to find a career I was passionate about as my previous job was in Beauty Therapy and I wanted to make people feel better not just superficially. So if you are among so many people I know that want a career change just go for it! I was 45 at the time!
As they say things happen for a reason so my journey really began when I rented space at my local yoga studio, (Enhance yoga, Berwick, Victoria) and I wanted to offer my clients some therapeutic herbal tea. After researching many 'soothing tummy teas' on the market I realised almost all of them contained FODMAPs! Chamomile high on the list, not so good if you have a food intolerance! So I created my own label along with a 'tea expert' and now am waiting on my first delivery this week! If you are not familiar with FODMAPs have a look on my website under low FODMAP diet (even if you don't have gut issues, as it is very interesting to know about these sugars which are in a lot of foods you eat).
So there you go if I can do it, seriously anyone can. I promise!!
So let's get motivated together!
Exercise 1 - This week let's try and set some SMART goals. Specific, Measurable, Attractive, Realistic and Timeframed. Goals need to be realistic or we lose motivation and feel like we have failed. An example of a weekly SMART goal would be 'On Monday and Wednesday night I will go for a 30 minute walk after tea'
So set 1-3 SMART goals this week and see how you go. It may be as small as mine, not drinking wine in my yoga pants!
p.s. I am putting together a Facebook group called 'Smart goal gals' to help each other stay motivated. If you are interested send me an email or post on my facebook page
